Pasta animation: Frame-by-frame animated illustration video
Creating this frame-by-frame pasta animation in Procreate was a real joy. It convinced me animation was a passion I wanted to pursue!
A pasta animation based on line illustration
I love 2D animations, they remind me of the vintage cartoons I used to watch as a kid. As a throwback to those times, I added some exaggerated sound effects to this pasta animation.
First, I exported the animation as a frame-by-frame MP4 on Procreate. This 9-second illustration animation of Italian pasta was then completed with royalty-free music, using a different video editing app.
The hand-drawn animation is based on line illustration. It depicts an Italian kitchen with spaghetti strands being thrown into a pot of boiling water, and then strained out with a pasta ladle.

Food illustration: Cooking spaghetti
Here’s a still frame from my spaghetti animation. It’s basically a scene from an Italian kitchen drawn digitally in Procreate. The boiling water pot is sitting snugly on a gas stove. It’s surrounded by an olive oil pourer, an Italian ceramic salt shaker, some veggies and cutlery.
I usually use analogue materials to create my illustrations, but when it comes to animation it’s far more easier to create the artwork in digital brushes.
I may, however, try my hand one day at making animations from analogue illustrations.
