Illustrated Food Ingredients
This Illustrated Food Ingredients blog series is an opportunity for me to shed some light on the local ingredients used in Levantine, Arab and Mediterranean cooking. This is where I will be sharing food illustrations and interesting content about what makes the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines so mouth-watering and delicious.
Food Ingredients of the Levant, Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean
The food and drink illustrations in this series will focus on protected Italian and Mediterranean agri-food products (that have a DOP or IGP designation), as well as native Levantine and Middle Eastern fruits and vegetables. From UNESCO-listed olive varieties, to the ancient Levantine durum wheat, these editorial and commercial illustrations will explore the cooking ingredients that distinguish the cooking style of this region.
Illustration Materials and Art Supplies
I created these illustrated food ingredients using a variety of analogue and digital tools, sometimes both. Whereas scanned watercolour textures may have been introduced to digital illustrations created in Procreate or Affinity, several illustrations are also purely analogue. Oftentimes, I like to create artworks using traditional materials, such as gouache, watercolour, alcohol markers, and, of course, ink pens and fineliners.
