Illustrated Travel Stories
I started this Illustrated Travel Stories blog series as an excuse to illustrate cultural and wanderlust stories about my sunny Mediterranean region. It’s because I love creating travel artworks that are inspired by Mediterranean, Levantine, Middle Eastern and North African arts, crafts, patterns and textures.
From Italy to the World
This illustration blog series starts in Italy and the Mediterranean and moves to explore other countries in the region – and beyond. From the Levant and North Africa, we have Syria, Jordan, Turkey (Türkiye), Lebanon, and Morocco, among others. Places I’ve been to outside of the Mediterranean include: The UK, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Uzbekistan and Thailand.
Cultivating Cross-Cultural Curiosity
The dream is to explore the food scene, cultural traditions, and craftsmanship across the Mediterranean sea basin as my primary focus, however, with an eye toward other places across the three continents I’ve been to. I’m also very interested in exploring places I haven’t been to yet, such as Indian food, arts and culture, including the legacy of the Mughal empire.
Travel Illustration Style
Over the years, I have developed a travel illustration style based on pen-and-ink line art with a variety of other materials, like watercolour, gouache, and alcohol markers. This said, I sometimes add digital elements or colour to my scanned analogue artwork. Other times, I create whole illustrations digitally from start to finish in Procreate and/or Affinity.
